EXPLORING WHITE RACIAL IDENTITY AS AN ANTI-RACIST ACT
WITH RW ALVES AND LAURA HUMPF
Are you a white person who is interested in exploring your own identity and experience as white? Are you a white person who has never thought about that at all?
Are you a white person who gets uncomfortable talking about racism? Do you shut down or get scared or nervous around topics of racism? Do you think that racism is not your issue?
Do you want to learn about whiteness as an identity and culture, and explore creating a radical white identity that works in solidarity with people of color in anti-racist movements?
Join us for an online book club and group exploration of the book Witnessing Whiteness: The Need to Talk About Race and How to Do It by Shelly Tochluk. The class meets for ten weeks, exploring a new chapter each week. We’ll use an online meeting platform, Zoom, to meet in real time, face-to-face, from all over the country to discuss, share, and learn from each other. Our sessions will be recorded if you have to miss one, or if you want to go back to review or further integrate the material and practices.
We will build online community to engage with topics of racism, anti-racism, and whiteness through:
*integration and embodiment practices
*small group discussions
*closed facebook group
*sharing of outside resources and readings
*recorded sessions that you can return to and watch anytime
Testimonials for the pre-series webinar:
“I wanted to thank you and RW for a powerful and thought provoking webinar last week, I really appreciated the thoughtful and comprehensive mind-body-spirit approach, even in the short time we had.”
You’ll need to have a copy of the book to read along and get the most out of the group. You can purchase your book here. http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2589697-witnessing-whiteness.
